Overview:

The ruins are a place of historical and spiritual significance, symbolizing both human ambition and divine retribution.
Description:
The Ruins of Donatus are spread across a desolate landscape, characterized by crumbling stone structures and remnants of once-grand buildings. The architecture reflects a blend of human ingenuity and divine inspiration, with intricate carvings and symbols dedicated to Donatus in contempt of the Gods. The area is dotted with broken columns, partially buried artifacts, and ancient altars, all covered in the dust and sand of the Mirage Plains. Vegetation is sparse, but the ruins are brought to life during the rainy season when the land briefly flourishes. Despite the generally harsh conditions found here, a massive apple tree remains at the center of the ruins, perpetually bearing luscious looking fruit.
History:
The history of the Ruins of Donatus is steeped in legend. Donatus, having grown arrogant in his youth and divine heritage, sought to prove his superiority over his mother, Vilcren. He attempted to transform the arid plains into a fertile paradise, but his hubris angered Vilcren, who cursed the land. The settlement fell into disrepair and was abandoned, leaving behind ruins as a testament to Donatus’ failed ambition and the wrath of the gods. Over time, the Gnoll tribes, particularly the Bloodfang Clan, made the ruins their home, recognizing their spiritual and historical significance.
Significance:
The Ruins of Donatus hold immense significance for the Gnoll tribes of the Mirage Plains. For the Bloodfang Clan, the ruins are not only a place of residence but also a sacred site. They believe that rather than a curse from Vilcren, the lands were blessed by Spatalos. The massive apple tree at the ruins center is said to mark the spot Spatalos appeared from, blessing the lands with his divine presence. To the gnolls this has marked this location as pivotal to their religion and the focal point for their dark rituals.
